Well, we picked up the Bambi in January - thanks Charlotte - She's undergone a massive change since then and we think she's GREAT (not in the size sense of the word but in every other respect). We've also managed to get hold of a really fantastic Bedford rascal for Jim & Dave and are all looking forward to the challenge of raising loads more cash for our charities and of course driving thousands of miles through deserts, past yaks and on the autoban...check out the website to find out more or click on the JustGiving SECURE ONLINE DONATION link at the bottom of this page to sponsor our chosen charities.

WE MADE IT!!

We made it into Ulaan Bataar on Friday 15th August - just under 4 weeks from leaving Hyde Park. Although the Bambi made it all the way to Mongolia with virtually no mechanical problems (only a flat battery from using the inverter to charge Al's video camera) we were forced to leave her at the border since the North Border Customs officials were not allowing any Mongol Rally cars to drive through to UB - VERY DISAPPOINTING for us as Bambi's in fantastic shape and we are very attached to her & were reluctant to leave her with the border customs guards as they seemed to be keen to take whatever we left behind for themselves. Stayed the night of the 14th with a wonderful Mongolian family who fed us and let us use their sauna, then moved all their family into one room so we could have a bedroom to ourselves - incredibly generous (we gave them whatever we had salvaged from the van as a present, including our generator and the little guitar we'd brought along which was very much appreciated)
Al flew direct to Hong Kong on the 15th and my flight home is on the 19th. We've had a fantastic rally - have met some incredibly generous people along the way and will keep the stunning scenery of Siberia and the beauty of the Ukraine with us for years to come.
The Africa Rally looks like it may be one to consider for 2010...!
