Team Wolfson Welcome to the Team Wolfson website!

We're three guys from Edinburgh who, in a moment of inspired madness, decided to drive ten thousand miles from London to Mongolia this summer. In a one litre car. As you do. We don't have any experience of doing this sort of thing before, and none of us know much about cars (yet), but we're going to give it our all and hopefully raise lots of money for charity and get back home in one piece!

We are sponsored by Wolfson Microelectonics - a world class provider of high performance mixed-signal semiconductors. Wolfson technology connects the digital world with the human senses, enabling exciting new user experiences. Their headquarters, where a significant majority of the staff are based is in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Please visit our fundraising website and donate to our chosen charities: Mercy Corps Mongolia and Hope and Homes for Children!

Well we've made it as far as Turkey so far without major incident. The car's running well apart from something dodgy going on wıth the gears/clutch that we're not really sure about. Twice now we've lost everything but first and reverse and we're not sure whether it's due to overheating, the bumping of rubbish roads or just a dodgy clutch. Fortunately, both times it has happened, it's miraculously fixed itself within 5 or 10 mins! Answers on a postcard to teamwolfson@hotmail.co.uk...

Highlights so far include a most terrifying lap of the Nurburgring in Germany (Jonny driving), the Czechout party in Prague (seems so long ago now!), driving through the Transylvanian Alps in a huge thunderstorm, Grant hitting a wolf at 50mph in the middle of the night in the Bulgarian mountains and our fırst warm shower ın İstanbul! It's certainly been an interesting trip and it's now hit us that we really are quite far from home and in a completely different landscape and culture. I think we were all glad to get out of Eastern Europe though, Romania in particular with it's awful roads and even worse weather. Just can't believe we stıll have another four weeks to go - feels like we should nearly be there by now!

Our main issue now is what we do after Azerbaijan. We'd been told by The Adventurists that because Jonny hadn't got an Iranian visa, he wouldn't be able to get ınto Turkmenistan but apparently that's a load of rubbish and shouldn't affect it at all! As such, we're hanging around Turkey for the weekend so we can pop into the Turkmenistan embassy in Ankara on Monday morning to find out what the deal is. That's pretty much going to decide our route after Azerbaijan, which ferry we get across the Caspian...[Read More]
