Day Something Or Other... Ukraine!

Well, after our previous bad luck in the Czech Republic and Austria, we decided to have our poor Suzuki scrapped (engine fatally wounded) and get another one! We're not going to give in that easily.. especially with our flights and visas booked for the rest of the way.

A very kind man at the Suzuki garage in Melk, Austria, managed to get us an Opel Vectra that was about to be sold by an old man. All that was wrong with it was a dodgy battery, broken window, and faulty airbag. After agreeing to buy the car, the guy rushed around like mad to get us on our way, getting the car fixed and sorting out the registration and insurance documents. Luckily he did rush, as the insurance office closed at 12H00 and we would have been stuck there for the entire weekend, loosing another two days.

We pushed hard that afternoon and managed to make it Budapest by the evening. Nothing exciting happened there, apart from us both passing out early from exhaustion.

The next day we travelled onto Romania, finally stopping in Cluj. Driving into Romania was like driving into a different world... we knew our journey had really started for sure! The roads were very difficult to drive on due to pot holes, horse-drawn carriages, and village after village where the maximum speed was limited to 50kph. Cluj was a nice place and we manged to find a good night club for a few drinks... that good that we ended up only getting back at 4 o'clock!

With us both having hangovers the next day, we set of very late... 1:30 to be exact! The next part of the trip was very exhuasting, once gain due to poor roads, but now with the added difficulty of heavy rain and mountain passes. We managed to get a place near...[Read More]
