Lloyd and Simon are off on one of the worlds last great adventures, they have deserted the comfort of their cozy IT jobs to spend a minor fortune on driving 11,000 miles overland through Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, camping out in the wilderness miles from anywhere and bartering with the locals for essentials. Think Indiana Jones x 2.

Rachel says....they've made it! They are in Ulaan Bataar and I'm sure a few celebratory drinks will be had...I've put the champagne on ice at this end! As you may have seen from their last few SMS messages the last 24 hours have been a roller coaster of emotions - yes they've made it but the last 30km was not under their own steam. After days of legendary bodging in the field (Jeff you can be justly proud!) DaNiTA finally succumbed to the pressures of the terrain and her chassis broke. Les Mongauloises pressed on to UB and made it under their own steam - well done guys! Meanwhile Simon & Lloyd were in desparate need of a tow. Luckily they managed to flag down a truck and 10 Mongols lifted DaNiTA onto the truck and Simon proudly sat in the driver's seat all the way into UB (I sooooo hope they've got pictures of that!) So they've made it....8500 miles give or take in a wonderful Citroen 2CV who we all loved and will be missed. She's now been handed over and I'm sure with some TLC will soon be in the service of the Mercy Corp, where she'll end her days doing good works. I'm sure when Simon and Lloyd hit the blog there will be some more thank yous but I would just like to thank Team Les Mongauloises for helping the worried loved ones stay in touch with all the news - I owe you some beers! |
