OUR ROUTE
Launch Day, Saturday 19th July: The 2008 Mongol Rally begins on Saturday 19th July 2008 when we, along with 300 other teams, leave from Londons Hyde Park, no doubt coughing and spluttering, and embark on a journey one third of the way round the Earth.
Day 1 & 2, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July: The first challenge is to reach Prague (TBC) so as not to miss the official party on the second night. This will involve a pretty much non-stop 800 mile dash travelling through France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and The Czech Republic. There will be no sightseeing, just motorway cafes and tarmac which the further we travel will become very elusive. LONDON to PRAGUE: 775 Miles
Day 3, Monday 21st July: After a well deserved, and almost certainly self inflicted late start, we will have a relatively easy day(?) as we head to Krakow in Poland. Here we will visit the Auschwitz memorial. PRAGUE to KRAKOW: 330 Miles
Day 4, Tuesday 22nd July: Into Ukraine today where, hopefully feeling fully refreshed (yeah right!), we will embark on another big driving day to reach Kiev. On route we will pass through Lviv, then City of Lions where more than 500 statues of lions are dotted across the city. Lviv`s architectural monuments and its cultural heritage have earned it a place on UNESCO`s World Heritage List but as much as we can hope for is a spot of lunch! Kiev is the capital of Ukraine and its must see sites include the Cathedral of St. Sophia and the Monastery of the Caves. There is also a small matter of a proper Chicken Kiev. KRAKOW to KIEV: 570 Miles[Read More] |
