Brian and Michael are team 2 UB or not 2 UB - that is the question!
The basic premise of the Mongol Rally is that 'The world is just a little bit too safe'. The main rule is that your vehicle should not have an engine larger than 1 litre. The spirit of the adventure is best summed up: 'If you get there with no major balls-up you might as well have stayed at home.'

and finally

we made it back...but apart. Michael flew UB- Irkutsk-Moscow, and Moscow - London (Thanks to Willie Walsh). A sensible route going generally in the correct direction. Brian however could not go that way, as his Russian visas had disappeared with his passport. So he routed UB-Beijing, Beijing-LHR. There was some difficulties in getting a ticket with no money, no Chinese visa, and no ticket from China to London, (andhe had cancelled the one credit card he had secretyed for emergencies) but it just shows how kind and helpful people can be if you look sufficiently helpless. And the BA flight home was as perfect as it can be, and for that Brian was and is and will be forever grateful. |
